These things aren't fast, don't handle well and get terrible fuel economy but I want one, badly. Maybe two.

Me too. They're slow, inefficient and handle badly. But they're pretty and comfortable.

Yup, they aren't and you do.

I have a '73 Buick LeSabre. Nearly as big as the caddys you show there. Nothing rides like a car that big. Nothing.

Both El Dorados. The black one is a 67, the blue a 65-66.

They do not have to be slow, that's why they have such big engines! Relatively, making 6000 lb of car move as quickly as some can is a pretty impressive feat. Nothing has the big car pulling grunty torque of the '70 cadillac 500. Especially if you throw a mild cam at it... Grunt Grunt Grunt Grunt

Color me jelly. I really wish I had the spare cash to get myself one of these. Not necessarily a Caddie, but some massive 60's or 70's land barge.

Here he goes after resurrecting it from sitting around for about 10 years. Found a Buick 455 (that's in pretty rough shape itself) to get it moving while we build a "real" engine for it.

I forgot to mention that, while not an old vehicle, I have driven a luxobarge in the form of the Bentley Mulsanne. Something about big cars with big torque just does it for me.

There's a running, driving 1971 coupe de ville in my area, looking for a good home. You can probably get it for free, maybe $500 tops.

Land barges like this are really relatively inexpensive as far as collector cars go. I've had this one since 1989, my grandmother bought it new so it hasn't cost me anything over the years. It's given me back more than I've put into it I think...

In really nice shape you can find something for 4-7K. They just aren't that desirable, unless you go looking for Caddys.

That '67 looks an awful lot like a sedan de ville. I forget when they diversified the Eldo and made it FWD, was '70 the first year for that?

Oh it was. 752 lb-ft of torque is something that has to be felt. That thing picked up speed like airliner taking off.

And it quiet . As quiet as a library and cushier than anything I've ever driven. A road going luxury battleship.

If I ever win the powerball, the first car I buy is a Mulsanne. Preferably in black or blue but I'd settle for one in just about any color. The goofy headlights look much better in person and the side profile is spectacular. Someone on here on e mentioned that it looks like a modern day Packard.

No, they haven't put it up for sale because they don't want just anybody buying it. They live right near us, though, so I talked to them about it.
The owner is getting old, and wants to clear out space in her barn, so that's why it has to go. She says anyone willing to give it a good home can probably have it. I would go get it, but I don't have a license yet, we don't have enough space, and my mom thinks it's disgusting.

An RV cam with plenty of mid-range grunt would make any barge do interesting things in the twisties.

I want to say its brown.. Not sure though, there was a pretty good layer of dust on it. No rust, though. And it's in California, so not as far to Puerto Rico as it could be.

The riviera boattail is the prettiest of the land barges, no question.

They look incredible. I saw one once that was hot rodded and it blew me away, kind of like this one. Just look how non-oversized those drag radials look on it. What a car

I don't know too much, but I'll tell you all I got- it's been owned by a nice older lady since new, and now the owner is liquidating assets in her old age. She's sold her restaurant (demolished for new homes:( ) everything in this huge old barn of hers (fascinating stuff in there- factory delorean car care kit? Where's the delorean??) and most of her things. She has this other barn, though, with 2 early 60s GMC trucks and this 1971 Cadillac coupe de ville. There used to be a 76 corvette, but it was sold too. Anyway, it hasn't been driven much in the past 10 years, just once a year to go get it smogged. I don't imagine it has more than a few thousand miles on it. Apparently, it's rust free, runs and drives, and passes the smog checks. She wants to get rid of it, not for the money, but just so she knows it goes to a good home. For some reason, the GMCs are going to stay though. I can go check it out on Wednesday if you want!

I put a 500" cad motor with an RV/towing cam in my '86 3/4 ton suburban for a few years. That was the right engine for that truck! Gas milage wasn't any more awful than with the 350 and it could MOVE!

No it was from these guys: http://www.cad500parts.com

Hard to link to the part, their catalog (and website) is old-school. I can't imagine they are very busy these days. I actually still have the motor, it's in great shape and sitting under the shelf in my garage, looking for a new home. What an awesome engine. I just need a buyer or new project. I'd let it go real cheap to anyone who has a use for it.

The truck had over 300K miles on it and the northeast salty winters ate the body out from under the truck. Had to let it go but I saved the engine.

And the engine as it sits now. Has been moved from the stand to resting on an old tire, but the idea is the same...

There's a '72 down the street from the house I grew up in. Every morning while I was waiting for the bus this little old lady would cruise by in that big old caddy on her way to wherever... I eventually figured out which house she lived in, and always kept my eye on that car. She passed away and the car sat there next to the house for years. The house was looking worse and worse. Then somebody must have discovered the house, and it started getting fixed up a little, but there were never any signs of life and the car still sat. Then a big shipping container parked itself next to the house, behind the car (in between the car and the street). Now, another 15 years later the house looks like shit, the container is still there, I can still see the caddy behind it but it looks to be sunk into the dirt, and the house looks ready to collapse on itself. Very sad. I've never seen a soul around that house to make inquiry. I'm guessing the house will be flattened and everything hauled off someday.

Hey, since we're on the topic, somewhat relevant FP post. The guy I linked to makes most of the Buick 455 parts we are using for the LeSabre's new engine.
